HOW FAST CAN I LOSE WEIGHT? 🙄

This is a question I hear a lot from clients especially as they get going on their weight loss journeys.

Ideally, you shouldn’t lose more than 1 percent of your body weight each week. For most people this works out to 1–2 pounds of fat loss per week, but it could be more or less depending on how much you weigh.

Your body is smart and will always seek balance. It doesn’t like to lose weight too quickly, so if you drop your calories extremely low overnight to lose weight, your body will fight to slow down weight loss and adjust.

Typically when someone loses a lot of weight very quickly and then goes off their diet, it’s very common for that person to pull all of the weight back on and then some.

Fat loss should be a slow, steady process so that you can build hood habits along the way that you’ll be able to sustain for life. The goal should always be able to do as little as possible; that is, sat as much as possible while still making progress.

Every time progress stalls, you’ll have to lower your food intake or add more exercise, so you want to leave yourself as much room to work with as possible.

If you immediately adopt a very caloric intake, you won’t be able to adjust much when progress stalls without making yourself miserable. Take it slow and steady and let your body do it’s thing.

The one time that rapid weight loss is okay is when you initially start a diet. It’s very common to lose anywhere from 5–10 pounds in the first week, but it’s usually just excess water weight you’re dripping from cleaning up your diet.

Once your body adjusts to the new plan, 1–2 pounds per week is a more appropriate and manageable goal.
