Being “HANGRY” is NOT in your Head and Here’s Why
No, it’s not your imagination playing with you.
“Hanger” is real, according to science. (1)
“Hanger” is defined as a “feeling of bad temper or irritability as a result of hunger.”
Here are the facts:
- People report a variety of negative emotions (not just anger!) when they feel hungry. (2)
2. Negative emotions are linked to issues like overeating, unsuccessful diets, and weight gain (especially in women). (3,4,5)
There’ve been lots of studies that give us insight into #2.
But not so many about #1.
That’s why a new study published in Appetite caught my eye. (1)
It adds to the body of evidence about how feelings of hunger can cause negative emotions.
I will show you the details, and then discuss what you might think about all this in totality
HOW THE STUDY WORKED
The scientists looked at how overnight fasting impacted healthy, young women’s emotions — both positive and negative.
